The House of the Temple is located on 16th Street between R and S Streets NW.
The Temple building is fully ADA accessible. Those who can use the front steps please do so. There is also a rear entrance with an elevator, if needed. The tour involves three different floors, each with a flight of stairs but there's an elevator for those who aren't able to go up the stairs.

About this event
The House of the Temple is the headquarters for the U.S. Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction. The building houses ceremonial rooms, administrative space as well as library and archive areas. Designed by the well-known architect John Russell Pope, the House of the Temple was Pope's first large monumental commission in Washington. The temple was also one of Pope's best-known and most highly praised works and is an excellent example of American Classical Revival architecture of the early twentieth century. In addition, Pope designed the West Wing of the National Gallery of Art, the Jefferson Memorial and the National Archives.
Pope's vision for the Temple was based on one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus, Turkey. The temple was opened in 1915.
Our tour will include viewing and learning about different features of this unique building as well as obtaining information about Free Mason history, practices, and some of the important men who have been Masons.
After the tour, there will be an optional stop for lunch in the Dupont Circle area.
