Do you love Monet, Renoir, Cassatt, Morisot, et al? Join the Dupont Circle Village for a private tour of the National Gallery of Art’s Impressionist/Post-Impressionist permanent galleries on Thursday 7 November from 3-4 pm.
Why was “Impressionist” a derogatory label applied to these painters by the French Academy? Since French consumers were not buying Impressionist paintings, what heroine connected wealthy American collectors, who loved Impressionism, with Impressionist painters? What three things had to be invented before artists could paint outdoors? What distinguishes Post Impressionism (Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Cezanne) from Impressionism?
Special note: this tour will prepare you for individually viewing the block-buster special exhibition entitled Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment (8 September 2024 to 19 January, 2025). No tours of special exhibitions are allowed, due to the crowds.
Meet docent Sheridan Strickland in the West Building’s Rotunda on the Mall side of the fountain; she will be there to greet us wearing her hanging badge and name tag. Plan to arrive by 2:50 pm.
