About this event
Join other Villagers for a guided experience of the Hirshhorn's exhibit, inaugurating the museum's 50th-anniversary season, "Revolutions: Art from the Hirshhorn Collection, 1860-1960". Our private group tour will offer an opportunity to engage with select works on view and the art and artists of our time through close looking, critical thinking, and conversation. The recently opened exhibit is a major survey of artwork made during a transformative period characterized by new currents in science and philosophy, and ever-increasing mechanization. "Revolutions" captures shifting cultural landscapes through the largely chronological presentation. In its first rotation, the installation presents 208 artworks in the museum's permanent collection by 117 artists - including Francis Bacon, Jean Dubuffet, Lee Krasner, Wilfredo Lam, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe and Jackson Pollack - made during 100 turbulent and energetic years.
Plan to meet our group and our tour's docent in the Hirshhorn Lobby at the information desk at 12:45 PM.
An optional stop afterwards will be for refreshments either at the Hirshhorn coffee bar or across the mall at the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden Pavilion Cafe.
15 guests are invited.
