About this event
Tai Chi was created based on a set of principles that are derived from ancient Chinese understanding of the law of nature, Traditional Chinese Medicine and martial arts.
The Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall prevention class is appropriate for beginners as well as participants with prior experience in Tai Chi and is a safe and easy-to-learn program proven to relieve pain and improve health and balance. This program is based on the gentle, healing Sun style of Tai Chi, incorporates warm up and cool down exercises, Qigong, Tai Chi principles (such as inner strength and mindfulness in movement) and is taught in a natural step by step sequence for learning that builds on itself from week to week. It is done in standing but can be adapted to sitting when needed, still presenting benefits. This program will be taught by a Tai Chi for Health Board Certified instructor.
Since its creation more than twenty years ago, the
Tai Chi for Arthritis program (by Dr. Paul Lam and his team) has been supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (
www.cdc.gov) plus many health departments and arthritis foundations around the world. Tai Chi for Arthritis has been shown by studies to prevent falls. Australian and New Zealand government departments have utilized this program to prevent the elderly from falling. There are over thirty medical studies showing that it is effective for improving balance and reducing falls, as well as providing many other health benefits.
