"GEN SILENT” – A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT LGBTQ AGING

GEN Silent is a documentary that follows (4) older adult LGBTQ couples and shares their concerns as they age.  Growing older presents challenges for everyone, but those in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community often face tougher obstacles than most. Come watch “Gen Silent,” a critically acclaimed documentary from filmmaker Stu Maddux that chronicles the day-to-day lives of six older LGBTQ people. Many older LGBTQ citizens are so afraid of bullying by caregivers that they decide to hide their orientation or are reluctant to ask anyone to help care for them. The film shows the disparity in the quality of paid caregiving—from facilities where the staff is committed to making their LGBTQ residents feel safe and happy to places where LGBTQ elders are discriminated against and often bullied by other residents. “Gen Silent” also spotlights people who are trying to change LGBTQ aging for the better.
